Environmental Philosophy:
Powerful ideas for our changing world

All the electrical power that is used on Guam must be generated on Guam. The Guam Power Authority is at work today seeking new ideas for meeting our growing needs for power in ways that will be both economical and environmentally friendly.

In 2007, GPA launched a community project to draft the “Integrated Resource Plan” (IRP), a plan of action to choose the alternative renewable energy resources that that will be right for our island while lessening our reliance on a single source of fuel.

In June 2008, GPA submitted its final draft of Guam’s IRP to the Public Utilities Commission. Approval of the plan is required before any new type of generation resource can be acquired, however the Public Utilities Commission has granted GPA permission to conduct wind studies in anticipation of using wind power as a viable opportunity for GPA to reduce fuel costs.

By December 2009, the PUC expects GPA to contract its initial alternative power generation plan. See the entire IRP (link)
