Overview

The Generation Division of the Guam Power Authority is one of the largest divisions in the authority.  It is comprised of two steam power plants, one slow speed diesel plant, four medium speed diesel plants, five combustion turbine plants, a centralized maintenance section, and the water system diesel generator section.  In conjunction with Independent Power Producers (Pruvient, Marianas Energy Company, and Taiwan Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Services), this division manages nearly 200 employees and a total of over 550 megawatts of power plant and emergency diesel generator rating capability.

Mission Statement

To provide reliable and efficient electric power to the people of Guam and military sectors with well-maintained, safe, and properly operated generation facilities.

Staffing

The Generation Division is diverse in disciplines and skills required to operate and maintain the power stations.

Apprenticeship

GPA continuously addresses staffing shortfalls due to a very small on-island labor pool having the experience and skills used in power plant operations and maintenance.  In February 2004, GPA kicked off an apprenticeship program to address the critical staffing concerns.

The Apprenticeship Positions in the Generation Division include:  Power Plant Operator and Instrument Technician.
