GPA BEGINS PIPELINE PROTECTION PROJECT
The Guam Power Authority through its contractor has started the installation of cathodic protection systems for GPA’s critical Fuel Oil Pipeline. The pipeline is routed from the Piti Tank Farm to the Tanguisson power plant. Cathodic protection systems will be installed at 14 underground road crossings from Piti to Tiyan to help prevent corrosion of the pipeline and avert hazardous and costly oil leaks.
“The project cost is approximately $110,000 and is contracted to a local company,” stated GPA General Manager Joaquin C. Flores, P.E, “The project is expected to be completed by July of this year and will significantly extend the life of the underground portions of the fuel oil pipeline . . .
