Lewis Knudsen (1971-1975)

Brief History at the Guam Power Authority:

April 1971, signed a two (2) year contract with the Guam Power Authority for the function of “Maintenance Supervisor” Tanguission Power Plant.

The Tanguission plant construction had just started; the 1st unit was owned by the U.S. Navy & was to be Operated & Maintained by the Guam Power Authority.

My primary job was to function as mentioned above & to train the local GPA personnel to maintain the plant and to replace me at the contract end.

I was at the Tanguission plant as the Maintenance Supervisor until the spring of 1973; I was then employed, non-contract, by GPA as the “Mechanical Project Engineer” for the new Cobras Power Plant to be built on Cabras Island.

During this phase of my employment with GPA, I was to coordinate the Mechanical Design, Construction, Commissioning & Turnover to GPA the two Cabras 66 mw Steam Turbine units.

My GPA associate was Gus Delgado, Electrical Project Engineer.

The Cabras Plant Prim Contractor was Mitsui & Co. LTD. Tokyo, Japan. Plant Design by Tokyo Electric Power Services, LTD, Tokyo, Japan. Civil Contractor, Miyaji Construction & Engineers Co. LTD, Tokyo, Japan.

Mechanical & Electrical Contractor, Taihei Dengyo Kaisha, LTD, Tokyo, Japan.

Throughout the construction of the Cabras Plant, Gus Delgado & I traveled to Japan to observe the fabrication & testing of various components for the plant as well as work with Tokyo Electric Services regarding design.

During the Commissioning phase of the Cabras plant, I was elevated to Plant Superintendent, I remained at this position until Aug. 1975, the family & I returned to the continual US.

After returning to the States, I was employed by Siemens AG, a large German Corporation. I become a Technical Director for the Power Division in Steam Turbines & Generators. This assignment took me all over the World, installing, commissioning & maintenance of all the Siemens generating units.

I am currently retired; the Wife & I are living on West Central Coast of Florida.
